01Who is Gajārūḍha Ṣoḍaśabhujā Vārāhī?

Gajārūḍha Ṣoḍaśabhujā Vārāhī is the sixteen-armed Vārāhī riding into battle on an elephant, surrounded by śaktis also mounted on elephants.

This canvas art print by Swaroop is part of the Forms of Vārāhī series.

02The dhyāna

“Seated upon an elephant, surrounded by shaktis who are themselves mounted on elephants, the Goddess, sixteen-armed, bears with Her right hands a claw, knife, sword, arrow, trident, mace, axe, and discus; and with Her left hands: a threatening index finger (tarjanī), shield, leather shield, bow, drum, plough, noose, and conch. She herself is blue in color (nīlavarṇā). She casts down the entire enemy army to the earth using parigha. Above Her flutters a banner made of banana-stem (kadalī-stambha-kṛta-dhvaja), and with Her own valorous and powerful energies śaktis who are born of the fire of Her pride in the overflowing might of Her own strength, She moves together into battle.”
